NAMI SUSSEX IS TOP FUNDRAISING TEAM

NJ Woman of Achievement Award

SPARTA, NJ – Marjorie Strohsahl of Sparta was awarded the 2016 New Jersey Woman of Achievement Award at a celebration dinner at the New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Clubs of GFWC Convention in Atlantic City this month.

This award was initiated in 1981 and is co-sponsored by New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Clubs and Douglass Residential College of Rutgers. The award acknowledges the extraordinary accomplishments of New Jersey Women and the impact these women have made on the lifestyle of New Jersey.

Strohsahl has made a tremendous contribution to our community through her volunteerism to non-profit agencies. She combines passionate commitment, deep empathy and concern for those in need, along with the practical vision to be an inspiring and effective community leader.

Patty Whitehouse, NJSFWC President from 2008 to 2010, nominated Strohsahl for this honor. The award was also presented to New Jersey Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno, Victoria Dabrowski Schmidt and Susan Ramos.

Strohsahl has taken the initiative and garnered support on the local and state level to have the National Alliance for Mental Illness-NJ or NAMI selected as the NJSFWC Special State Project. She arranged fundraisers for the cause, educated the community about mental illness, and supports local Veterans’ groups to increase awareness of PTSD suffered by Veterans, and police and first-responders, as well.

She served as President of Sparta Woman’s Club from 2003- to 2005 and is their Performing Arts chairperson.

Marjorie was an Executive Officer of NJSFWC, and their representative to the Highlands Coalition, serving on that executive board. She recently completed her term as President of the Past Presidents’ Club-10t/Highlands, comprised of 30 women’s clubs, and her term as District Special State Project Chair.

A co-founder of Sparta Historical Society, Marjorie holds the position of Vice President and chairs their Gala, the Society’s primary fundraiser. She is an Executive Trustee of NAMI Sussex County, past president of the Xi Beta Rho Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi International, and an active member of Saint Kateri Parish, providing her talents and energies to their needs.

Marjorie is a forceful advocate for all the organizations she represents and has made a tremendous contribution to our community.
